THURSDAY, MAY 26

3:00-4:00 am: Beth Holloway drives Natalee to the home of a friend, whose mother drives Natalee and several other MB students to the airport (VF, LN).

125 MB students and 7 chaperones arrive in Aruba and check into the Holiday Inn. Natalee's room is 7114. She has three roommates: Lee Broughton, Ruth McVay, and Katherine "Madison" Whatley.

After dinner Madison remains at the HI, while other MB students go to CnCs. Madison stays in the same room as her boyfriend Trey Merrill, and does not know where Natalee is that night (Whatley 302).

Natalee and Ruth go out Thursday night (DZNH).

THURSDAY-MONDAY (Multiple or unspecified dates) 

Lee and Natalee's daily routine is to get a drink and go to the ocean at 10:00 am, return to their room for naps at 5:00 pm, get ready for dinner at 6:00 pm, and then after dinner go out to bars together (Broughton 302).

Croupier Micheal Cornes observes that Natalee comes to the HI casino every day, where she drinks rum the entire evening. She always receives a full cup of rum with only a bit of cola (DZNH).

Natalee shares a bed with Ruth. Every morning when Ruth wakes up she sees Natalee beside her, except for Monday (NY Post 7/17/05)

Madison and other girls tease Natalee about wearing a short skirt, which is unlike her. Madison believes Natalee to be a virgin (DZNH).

While Natalee is drunk, she tells a classmate she wants to see sharks, and asks a cab driver if you could see sharks near the lighthouse (DZNH, p. 223). 

Natalee tells a classmate that her mother is "Hitler's sister" (DZNH, PTL).

A male classmate, Hunter Williams, takes naps in Natalee's hotel room, and Lee later tells the FBI that he might have stayed in the room with them one night, but doesn't think he would have used Natalee's toothbrush (DZNH, p. 333). 

Liz Cain does not see Natalee at breakfast (Cain 302)

At CnCs, Bryan Reynolds breaks up a scuffle involving MB students and someone he later believes to have been Joran (Birmingham Post-Herald 6/10/05, AP 7/24/05)

SATURDAY, MAY 28

1:30 am: Liz leaves CnCs, Natalee had already left (Cain 302) .

Allie Anderson, Lizzy Cezayrili and Stephanie Karagas go on Tattoo Cruise (Watson 302)

1:00-5:00 pm: Natalee goes on a snorkeling trip to sunken boat with Liz, Madison, Laraine Watson, other MB students, and two chaparones. No one else goes on the trip except for the two employees on the boat (Cain, Whatley, Watson 302s).

After the snorkeling trip, Liz goes to the pool area at the HI, where she sees Natalee, and shortly thereafter she sees Natalee at dinner in the open pavilion area (Cain 302)

Liz sees Natalee from a distance at the HI indoor bar, talking to a local man for about 30 minutes (Cain 302).

In the evening, Brian Riser sees a tall, sunburned young man talking to Frances Ellen Byrd and Lee Broughton, whom he later believes to be Joran (Riser 302).

Croupier Elzeline Tromp sees Natelee in the evening at the casino, drinking a lot of alcohol, and appearing intoxicated (DZNH).

Natalee asks croupier Sandy Dirks for a full cup of rum with a tiny bit of cola to give it color, Dirks tells her the most s/he can give her is two shots in one cup. Dirks thinks that Natalee is an alcoholic. S/he observes that although the whole group drank a lot, Natalee drank the most (DZNH).

Madison doesn't leave the HI that night, doesn't know if Natalee did (Whatley 302).

Natalee becomes very intoxicated and is escorted back to her room by Kevin Broday (Broughton 302)

Joran, Deepak, and Satish go to CnCs, do not see Natalee there (S 6/10)

SUNDAY, MAY 29

In the morning Natalee starts drinking mixed drinks called "Red Fires", which contain Diet Coke and Bicardi 151. Natalee becomes intoxicated and her friends tell her to slow down. Lee and Natalee continue drinking throughout the day (Broughton 302)

Laraine is with Natalee on the beach most of the day. While on the beach, Allie Anderson, Lizzy Cezayrili and Stephanie Karagas wave at a group of individuals at an adjacent resort, whom they had met the previous day on the Tatoo cruise. Natalee is intrigued by what her classmates reported about the cruise, and Laraine later tells the FBI she would not be surprised if Natalee had met the individuals from the adjacent resort sometime that afternoon (Watson 302)

4:00-5:00 pm: Natalee and Laraine leave the beach and go to the hotel pool, where Laraine takes photos of Natalee and other students. Natalee and other classmates are drinking on and off throughout this time (Watson 302).

4:00-7:00 pm: Joran calls his friend Jaime, tells him that some American girls are going to CnCs, and asks whether he wants to meet him there. Jaime responds that he will let him know later that day, he has to work the next day. Later that day Joran phones Jaime again, but he doesn't answer (Caceres 6/17/05).

Note: According to Joran, this phone conversation occurred shortly after he parted with the MB girls at the HI, which appears to have been around 9:50 pm.

4:00 pm: Joran and his father Paul attend a free poker tournament in the Excelsior casino at the HI. Halfway through, Paul leaves to look after Joran's youngest brother, and Joran takes his place (J 6/9).

Joran plays poker with Jug Twitty's nephew, Thomas (VF).

4:30 pm: Liz sees Natalee at the HI pool (Cain 302)

5:00 pm: Liz sees Natalee at the hot tub in the HI (Cain 302)

6:00-7:00 pm: Natalee, Lee, Madison and others go to dinner at a restaurant next to the HI (Broughton 302, Whatley 302)

7:00 or 8:30 pm: Keycard that Dave Holloway later believes Natalee was using, is used for the last time ("Aruba" p. 72, "Rita Cosby" 4/5/06)

8:25 pm: Joran and group of MB girls including Natalee are captured on security video together at the same blackjack table in the HI casino. The girl sitting next to Joran on his left is Ruth, Natalee is to Ruth's left. Natalee does not interact with Joran on the video, and at one point appears to be talking on a cell phone (PTL)

Natalee watches her classmates gamble but does not gamble herself. Joran helps Ruth win back money she'd lost. Ruth and Madison tell Joran they are going to CnCs, Joran tells them CnCs "sucks" on a Sunday night. They tell Joran it is the MB students' last night in Aruba (Whatley 302, J 6/9).

8:58 pm: Natalee captured on video re-entering casino (PTL)

9:00 pm: Liz Cain sees Natalee at HI Pavilion, Natalee says she is going to the casino in the hotel (Cain 302)

9:00-10:00 pm: Laraine Watson sees Natalee coming out of the bathroom in HI lobby area. Laraine compliments Natalee on her shirt and has a conversation with her. Natalee appears to be getting ready to leave the hotel, she does not appear intoxicated (Watson 302)

After blackjack, Ruth and Natalee eat nachos, before going to the Soul Beach Music Festival on Surfside Beach (DZNH)

9:45 pm: MB girls and Joran go to hotel bar by the pool (Broughton 302)

At the sports bar Joran meets his friends Luis and Joshua (DZNH).

9:50 pm: As Joran is leaving, Natalee askes if Joran is going meet them later at CnCs, Joran says no one really goes out on Sunday nights (Broughton 302).

After MB girls suggest it again, Joran decides he will go to CnCs, hoping to meet up with Ruth, whose name he later recalls as 'Kathleen" (J 6/9, OTR)

Ruth tells Joran she will take a shower and meet him later at CnCs (J 6/9)

Joran asks his friend Andre, who is at the casino, if he will accompany him to CnCs. Andre says he cannot because he has an exam the next day (Dos Santos 6/20)

Joran walks outside, calls his father and asks for a ride home. Paul says he will pick him up at McDonalds. Joran then calls his friend Jaimie and asks if he will accompany him to CnCs, but Jaime says he cannot because he has to work the next day. On the way to McDonalds Joran calls Deepak (OTR, J 6/9)

9:50 pm: Joran tells Deepak he met girls in the casino who would be going to CnCs, and asks Deepak if he wants to accompany him. Deepak says yes, he will go home for a short while and then pick Joran up at his place (D 6/11)

10:00-10:30 pm: Natalee, Ruth, Tracy Lazarus, and John Henderson take a taxi to CnCs (Broughton 302, DZNH)

Joran calls his friend Florencia and asks her if she wants to accompany him to CnCs, but she says her father won't allow her to go (J 6/9)

10-20 minutes after Joran leaves the HI, Paul picks him up at McDonalds, drives him home (OTR).

Satish and Deepak go to Taco Bell. Afterwords, as they are returning to Kalpoe home, Deepak is bitten by ants in the car. Deepak tells Satish they should clean the car because any girls in the car may be bitten by ants. At home, Deepak and Satish vaccuum/clean car (D 6/11)

Note: In his 6/10 interview, Deepak says they vaccumed the car the day before his 5/31 interview at Bubali, because Joran had almost fallen in the water, and then sat down in the car with sand on his shorts and legs.

10:33 pm: Joran checks his e-mail on the van der Sloot computer (CRD)

10:45 pm: At CnCs, Natalee and other girls from the group start doing body shots on the bar (Broughton 302)

Natalee is the first one to lie on the bar for a body shot with MB student Beau Barron. The bartender pulls up Natalee's top to put the body shot on her belly, but he pulls it up so high her breasts are almost exposed. Natalee covers them with her hands and says "No, stop" (DZNH)

11:00 pm: Liz sees Natalee at CnCs (Cain 302)

Ruth and Natalee talk to a man from Amsterdam called "G". He says that he is on Aruba for the summer and has an apartment there (DZNH).

After doing body shots Natalee and Lee dance on the stage until about 12:00 am (Broughton 302)

Natalee briefly dances with her ex-boyfriend Jeremy Brown. Jeremy does not think she is drunk (DZNH)

Bartender Carlos Medina observes that Natalee does not seem drunk, and that she looks very happy (DZNH).

MONDAY, MAY 30

12:15 am: Liz sees Natalee sitting at the bar, talking with Vivian Yielding and Callie Perkins (Cain 302).

Deepak parks his car behind CnCs, Joran, Deepak, and Satish walk into CnCs together.

Ruth hugs Joran when he walks in and tells him that he should go dance with Natalee, because she fancies him and has "shotgun" on him ( J 6/9, DZNH, "De Vries" 2/4/08)

Note: In his OTR interview, although Joran says that one of Natalee's friends greeted him when he walked in, he also states that he does not recall seeing or speaking to the girl whose money he helped win back at the casino.

Madison sees Joran while standing on platform looking for friends, does not see Natalee with him (Whatley 302).

Natalee and Lee go to the bathroom, Natalee passes by Joran without acknowledging him. After returning from the bathroom Natalee goes back up on the stage to dance, while Lee goes to do more body shots on the bar. Lee last sees Natalee as she is dancing on the stage and Joran is standing by the steps looking up at her (Broughton 302)

Natalee gestures and shouts at Joran to come dance with her. Joran declines, and goes to the bar with Kalpoes to buy drinks (S 6/11, OTR, DNZH)

The trio walk back to the stage area. Natalee gestures for Joran to dance with her, he declines (D 6/11)

Deepak observes that Natalee dances "beautifully" and does not appear unsteady on her feet when she steps off the stage (D 6/11)

Note: In his 6/9 statement Deepak tells police he could tell Natalee was drunk from how she was dancing, and that she swayed on her feet when she walked.

Natalee walks up to Joran and says "Hi, how's it going? Why didn't you dance with me?" (J 6/9, D 6/9, D 6/11)

Deepak hears Joran laugh hard but can't hear his answer, Natalee again asks him to dance and Joran declines. Deepak then sees Natalee walk over to some of her friends, three girls and two boys. Deepak speaks to a friend for 5-10 minutes, then can't find Satish and Joran so he goes outside to wait in the car (D 5/31, D 6/9, D 6/11)

12:30-12:45 am: Laraine is standing at the bar with Bruce Rawls and Allie Anderson. Natalee gets a cigarette from Allie, and tries to get Allie to come meet a couple of guys she has met. Allie declines, and Natalee walks away toward the dance floor. Only two or three more songs play before CnCs closes (Watson 302)

12:30 am: Madison leaves CnCs because Holly Brown is very drunk and needs to be escorted back to the hotel. Madison leaves with her boyfriend Trey, Ruth, and Mary Wood in a taxi (DZNH)

As Ruth departs she sees Joran and Natalee talking and waves, Natalee waves back. Ruth does not think Natalee looks drunk (DZNH).

Natalee takes Joran by the hand and leads him to the other bar, further away from the stage, telling him on the way that he has to do a body shot off of her. When they arrive at the bar Natalee asks for a body shot and then lies down on the bar so Joran can drink it from her belly button (J 6/9)

Satish has never seen this before and asks Joran what she is doing (S 6/11)

When Natalee gets on the bar Joran thinks that she is drunk, he can clearly tell that she had been drinking from the smell of alcohol on her breath (J 6/9)

Natalee pays for the body shot (S 6/11)

After Joran does the body shot off Natalee, she says she also wants to drink a body shot, but the bartender tells Joran the bar is closed. They go back to the bar on the other side and Joran buys Natalee a shot of Bacardi 151. Natalee drinks Joran's whiskey Coke as a chaser before drinking her shot in two goes (J 6/9)

Natalee agrees to leave with Joran, then goes to speak to some of her friends and returns (OTR, PTL).

Satish is standing beside Joran the entire time he is talking to Natalee (J 6/9)

12:55 am: Laraine is standing and chatting with Natalee, sees her go to the dance floor to dance. Possible this is the same incident described in Watson 302 (Watson affidavit).

Deepak sits outside car because Satish has keys. Deepak is out of minutes so sends Satish "missed call", Satish comes out and gives him keys, goes back inside to get Joran (D 6/11)

Satish recieves 'missed call' from Deepak, calls him back, tells him they are still inside CnCs and will come out to the car. Joran tells Satish they are leaving and Natalee is coming with them, the three of them leave CnCs together (S 6/11)

1:00 am: CnCs closes, Joran, Satish, and Natalee leave CnCs together.

1:00 am: Lee walks to another bar, Choose A Name, looking for Natalee. When she can't find her, she goes back to catch a taxi (Broughton 302)

Outside CnCs an American tourist asks Joran if he can have his cup, Joran gives it to him (J 6/9)

Joran asks Natalee if she wants to go back to her hotel. Natalee asks Joran if he has a big house, Joran asks her if she wants to see it and she says yes (OTR)

Joran, Satish, and Natalee are all walking together when Natalee asks Joran if she can go home with him (J 6/9)

Note: In none of the Kalpoes' released statements, do they mention having heard either Natalee or Joran say that Natalee wanted to go to Joran's house.

Outside CnCs, Natalee tells a group of MB students that she is going with Joran and will meet them at the HI (DZNH).

Joran and Natalee walk with Satish to where Deepak is waiting in the car behind CnCs. Joran and Natalee are holding hands.

Natalee gets in the right side of the car and sits behind Deepak (D 6/9, S 6/11)

Joran asks Natalee where to go now, Natalee says to Joran's place. Joran says "OK, let's go." (DZNH)

Note: In Joran's 6/9 statement he says that before they drove off he told the Kalpoes that Natalee wanted to go to his house, but he could not take her there because his father and brothers were home. He then told Natalee that he could not take her to his house but he could come to her hotel room, and she answered that she did not want to go to her hotel room, she wanted to go to the North coast to watch the sharks.

Security video at Diamonds International jewelry store captures Deepak's vehicle leaving CnCs. The video is later shown on the Dutch TV program "Opsporing Verzocht", but without the timestamp.

Although Natalee has not asked Joran outright, her body language betrays her intention to have sex with him when they get to his home. She tells Joran he has beautiful eyes and that she likes tall guys (DZNH).

On the main road they pass Natalee's friends, who are standing on the corner of the Royal Plaza on the southeast side, between the Plaza and the bus stop (J 5/31, 6/9)

Natalee sees her friends standing at intersection west of Royal Plaza, Satish observes there are about 60 people at the Plaza intersection on both sides of the road. Joran says to turn right because Natalee wants to speak to her friends (S 6/11)

Instead of passing CnCs again, Deepak turns left toward Choose a Name because he sees police standing at the corner and he is not wearing a seatbelt (D 6/9)

Natalee shouts "Aruba" to her friends (J 6/9)

Natalee calls a boy's name, which Deepak can't remember (D 5/31)

A young man walks up to the car and shouts at her "Are you crazy, get out of the car". She answers that she will hook up with them later at the hotel and will go with the trio. The young man doesn't say anything more and Deepak drives off (J 6/9, D 6/9, S 6/11)

Deepak stops the car past the crosswalk and tells Natalee she should go with her friends, she again says that his car is beautiful and she wants to drive around. Joran asks if she is sure she wants to drive around with them and she says yes. Deepak drives on, although he tells Joran he doesn't think it's good that Natalee remains with them, because she is drunk and he doesn't want any problems (D 5/31, 6/9).

After passing Choose a Name, Deepak circles around, returns to main road and turns right heading toward the Royal Plaza. Deepak intends to leave Natalee with her friends (J 6/9, D 6/9, S 6/9).

1:20 am: They pass back through the Plaza intersection, Natalee's friends are no longer there (J 6/9, D 6/9, S 6/11).

1:26 am: Keycard for Natalee's room used (OTR 4/4/06)

1:30 am: Lee returns to the HI (Broughton 302)

Conflict: Joran and Kalpoe accounts of their route to the beach diverge here. Joran says they went his house and did not go to the lighthouse, the Kalpoes say they did not go to Joran's house and did go to the lighthouse. Initially, all three said they took the route now described by the Kalpoes, but ending when they dropped Natalee off at her hotel. On June 10, 2005, Joran claimed that the Kalpoes dropped him off at his house and drove off with Natalee. On June 11, the Kalpoes said they actually left Joran and Natalee at the beach, and from June 13 onward, Joran has continued to say they went to his house, but now claims they just briefly stopped there, before going on to the beach.

Natalee says she wants to see sharks (DZNH)

Natalee says she wants to see sharks at the lighthouse (D 6/11, J 6/9, S 6/11)

Joran laughs and says there aren't sharks on Aruba and you can't see anything at night to begin with (DZNH, S 6/11)

Natalee says she saw sharks earlier in her trip (DZNH, 6/5/05 Deepak e-mail).

Natalee says that the lighthouse is the only place on Aruba that she has not yet seen, and she wants to see it. Joran tells Deepak to drive to the lighthouse (S 6/11)

Note: In his 6/9 statement Joran also said that at this point, he told Deepak to drive to the lighthouse, Now he says that at this point they were en route to his house.

Natalee is sitting with one of her legs against Joran. She has on a short skirt and has her hand in front of her crotch. Joran thinks that she is doing it to prevent them from seeing her underpants, but even with the hand it is still easy to see they are dark blue and have flowers embroidered on them (DZNH)

Natalee tells Joran about the good time she's had on Aruba and how her friends also met guys with whom they hung out, Louis and Joshua (DZNH).

Natalee tells Joran that her mother is Hitler's sister. When Joran laughs at that statement she says "Sorry, I know you are German that is why I had to tell you". Joran laughs even harder because he is not German, he asks her if she is kidding and she says she is not (J 6/9, S 6/11, D 6/29, DZNH)

Natalee tells Joran she wants to go to Austria (P 6/23)

When they reach La Cabana, Satish puts in a DVD, Benny Benassi's video for "Satisfaction". with explicit sex scenes in it. Natalee says 'Oh my God, what is that'. Deepak says "Now she'll think we're perverts". After a few minutes Joran tells Satish 'Turn that thing off, she has had enough of it" (D 6/11, DZNH)

1:40 am: They arrive at Joran's house. Joran intends to have sex with her there and then put her in a cab to her hotel. Natalee asks where they are. Joran says they are at his place but she says she does not want to go there, she wants to go to the beach (J 6/14, DZNH).

Joran decides not to take her inside because his father and brother are sleeping (PTL).

On the way to the beach Joran asks Natalee if she wanted to go to her hotel room instead, she says "No, not to my hotel" (DZNH)

Joran receives a text message from Florencia, he does not respond (DZNH).

Deepak suggests going to the lighthouse (DZNH)

Joran and Natalee start kissing.

Deepak observes Joran and Natalee kissing when he glances in the rear-view mirror (D 6/9)

During the drive a white rental car drives alongside Deepak's car for about five seconds and Deepak asks, what is up with these men. At that moment Satish looks in back and sees that Joran and Natalee are kissing. The other vehicle turns into the direction of the HI as Deepak keeps driving straight (J 6/9, S 6/11, S 6/24)

Joran asks Deepak if they are going to the lighthouse, he says they are, but they never go there (DZNH).

As they pass the Mariott, Natalee falls asleep on Joran's leg, then startles awake and starts kissing him again. As they kiss, Joran "fingers" Natalee and fondles her breasts. He notices that Natalee's pubic area is shaved. After a couple minutes Joran stops fingering her, because he finds it rude to the Kalpoes (J 6/9).

The Kalpoes do not see Joran fingering Natalee in the car, they only see kissing (D 6/11, S 6/24)

Note: Previously, in the Kalpoes' 5/31 statements, they claimed to have seen Joran fingering Natalee in the car. In his 6/11 statement Deepak says that on the morning of 5/31, Joran told him their story should include him fingering Natalee.

Natalee asks if the Kalpoes are his slaves. Joran asks her "Why?" Natalee responds that her parents have a plantation, the people who work there are black, and to her all blacks are slaves (J 6/9)

Satish hears Natalee say her parents own a plantation in Alabama with slaves working on it (S 6/11)

The Kalpoes do not hear Natalee ask Joran if they are his slaves, Joran tells them about that later (OTR, S 6/11)

At Arashi beach, Deepak stops the car and gets out to relieve himself, then drives on to the lighthouse. Everyone in the car is awake when he gets out (D 6/11, 6/30)

Natalee falls asleep before they arrive at the lighthouse (S 6/24)

Note: In his 6/9 statement, Joran says that Natalee fell asleep a second time as they were appraching the lighthouse, close to the dunes.

A security guard does not see a car going to the lighthouse (OTR)

At the lighthouse, Satish asks Deepak if Natalee and Joran would get out of the car to see the sharks, and tells Deepak that they probably would not leave the car because they were kissing (S 5/31)

Deepak says "This is the lighthouse", nobody responds. He turns around and sees that Joran and Natalee are kissing (D 6/11).

Note: In his 6/9 statement, Deepak said that at the lighthouse he saw Joran's hand was under Natalee's skirt as he was kissing her, but in his 6/11 statement he said he did not see Joran's hand under her skirt, he only saw them kissing.

Deepak gives Satish a look asking, what should I do. Satish tells him in Dutch he should keep driving. Deepak sees two vehicles parked at the lighthouse, a green jeep and white car (D 6/9, D 6/11)

Deepak asks Joran if Natalee wants to see the lighthouse, Joran says he doesn't think so because she had fallen asleep (S 6/11)

Satish sees that Natalee is lying asleep on Joran's lap (S 6/11)

Deepak asks how that is possible, and tells Joran to wake her up to ask her where she is staying, so he can take her back to her hotel (D 6/9, 6/11)

Note: In Joran's 6/9 statement he says that Natalee "startled awake" at the lighthouse, and asked him where they were.

1-2 minutes after Deepak asks Joran to wake Natalee up, Joran tells Deepak she is staying at the HI (D 6/9)

Joran tells Deepak he should drive to the the HI to drop her off (S 6/11, 6/24).

At they are leaving the lighthouse Joran says that Natalee has fallen asleep (D 6/9, 6/11)

Note: In Joran's 6/9 statement, he says that while they were driving back towards her hotel, Natalee dozed off several more times and they didn't kiss any more.

In the vicinity of the Marriott, Joran tells Deepak to let him out. Deepak turns right onto the side road just north of the Marriott hotel, and drives to the end of the road, where Joran tells him to stop (D 6/11, S 6/13)

1:45 am: Joran and Natalee both get out of the car on the right side (S 6/13)

Deepak does not see anyone else around (D 6/30)

Joran tells the Kalpoes he will find a way to get home, and will walk Natalee back to the HI (D 6/11)

Joran tells Deepak he will call him later when he's ready to be picked up, and Deepak says "OK" (OTR)

Joran and Natalee walk off in the direction of the beach with their arms around each other. Natalee is walking fine (S 6/11).

There are other couples on the beach by the Marriott. Joran takes off his shoes, walks up to the water with Natalee and sits down with her (OTR, J 6/14)

Natalee tells Joran that she likes Aruba, and that she wants to see sharks. Joran tells her that there are no sharks around Aruba. Natalee asks Joran 5 or 6 times where she was from, he says he doesn't know. Natalee tells Joran she is really good at French kissing and that she wants to stay alone with him and French kiss. Natalee then tells him again that her mother is Hitler's sister (J 6 /14).

They talk and kiss by the Marriott for about five minutes (J 6/14)

After Kalpoes arrive home, Deepak turns on his computer and chats on MSN with a friend, John Croes. He tells Croes that he had dropped Joran off on the street with a girl, and that he is waiting for Joran to call and say everything is fine. After chatting with Croes, Deepak watches TV (D 6/11).

Three fishermen are at the Huts and do not see Joran and Natalee there ( J 7/3, S 7/3)

Joran and Natalee sit down on the beach and begin to engage in sexual activity, but they don't have sex, because Joran discovers he has no condom in his wallet. They continue to engage in sexual activity for more than 15 minutes. First Natalee masturbates Joran, then he fingers her (J 6/14, DZNH)

Afterwords Natalee wants Joran to stay and look at the stars, even though she says they are not as bright as the stars in Alabama (DZNH)

Joran tells her he has to go home because he has school. Joran picks her up to carry her back to her hotel but she demands that he put her down (ACA, OTR)

Note: In his 6/13 and 6/14 statements Joran says that after their sexual activity Natalee fell asleep, and remained asleep except for a couple times when he briefly woke her. In his 6/13 statement he says that after his phone call to Deepak, he laid down beside her without speaking for 10 minutes while she slept.

Joran walks to the Fisherman's Huts to call Deepak, because the beach is windy (OTR)

2:26-2:34 am: Joran calls Deepak from his cell phone (DZNH)

During the call, Joran talks to Deepak in Papi and Dutch so that Natalee will not understand. Deepak asks what happened and Joran boasts that she had given him a blow job. Deepak says that Joran is a lucky guy, and he will come and pick him up (DZNH).

During the call. Joran tells Deepak he is walking home and is in the vicinity of the McDonalds on Palm Beach. Joran is breathing heavily. He says he is walking home barefoot, because he took his shoes off to go in the water with Natalee and could not find them again. He also says he left Natalee "passed out" on the beach (D 6/11, D 6/16)

2:30 am: HI security guard sees a "dangerous robber", M. Celaire, and another man walking north of the hotel. At the same time he sees American students who had been skinny-dipping leave the ocean (Reneska 7/18)

2:30-3:00 am: Gardener Carlos Ramos awakens, looks at his watch, and leaves for work. On his way he passes a car parked on a dirt road near a pond by the Racquet Club, several hundred meters east of the Fisherman's Huts. There are male three persons in the car, and as he drives by, the one sitting next to the driver covers his face with his hands. Later Ramos identifies the car as Deepak's, the driver as Joran, and one of the two other occupants as Deepak (Ramos 7/26-8/16).

2:34 am: Joran's younger brother Valentijn on van der Sloot computer (CRD)

2:38 am: Young woman resembling Natalee is captured on ATM video coming out of the bathroom opposite HI casino. To be seen exiting the bathroom but not entering, she must have passed through the pool area. She is dressed similarly to how Natalee was dressed at CnCs, but is wearing a different top (Renfro e-mail)

Deepak sends Joran a message telling him that he is waiting for him to get home and go online, and after that he will go to sleep (D 6/11)

2:45-2:50 am: 10-15 minutes after Joran's call to Deepak, he hears Deepak's car arrive. Natalee refuses a ride back to her hotel, so Joran leaves her on the beach (OTR, DZNH)

The last thing Joran says to Natalee is "Bye", when he last sees her she is sitting facing the ocean (ACA)

The spot where Satish picks him up is "about 300 yards" from where he left Natalee. He has been on the beach for about an hour (OTR)

Joran walks to the car and sees it is Satish who has come to pick him up. Joran tells Satish that he wants to take Natalee to the HI but she refuses to go. Satish says "Fuck the bitch, let's go" and they drive off (OTR, DZNH)

Joran realizes he left his shoes on the beach at the Marriot. Satish says that he should leave them, they will pick them up tomorrow (DZNH).

Sometime on "the last day of the trip", the boyfriend of Natalee's roommate Madison Whatley uses Madison's toothbrush, because he has lost his (Whatley 302) .

Holly Brown helps Madison clean up their hotel room. Madison asks Holly to throw her toothbrush in the trash, Holly puts Madison's toothbrush in a trash can in Madison's adjoining hotel room (Whatley 302).

Madison and Ruth pack Natalee's belongings. Madison may have left a cup in the bathroom that Natalee was using (Whatley 302)

Natalee's friends knock on Frances Ellen's door asking if she knows where Natalee is. When they are told she isn't there, they all go straight to the chaperones ("Scarborough Country" 6/2/05)

10:00 am: Before Natalee's bus leaves for the airport, chaperones are informed that she is missing and had last been seen the previous night, leaving with some guys in a silver car. Natalee's belongings are brought to the front of the hotel in case she shows up. Chaperones notify hotel security that Natalee is missing and call the woman who organized the trip ("Abrams Report" 2/22/06, "Rita Cosby" 2/22/06, OTR 2/24/06)

10:30 am: Bus with second group of MB students leaves for the airport.    

11:00 am-1:00 pm: Beth Holloway and two friends leave Memphis "late morning" her time, returning from a trip to Arkansas (LN).  

12:00 pm: Satish wakes up (S 6/13)

1:00 pm: Beth receives a phone call at about noon her time, from the daughter of trip organizer Jodi Bearman.  Jodi notifies Beth that Natalee is missing. Beth calls her husband Jug, and asks him to see about getting transportation to Aruba (LN). 

4:00-5:00 pm: Joran at home chatting on computer, possibly to Deepak (J 6/14)

4:15 pm: Paul returns home from work, sees Joran there (P 6/23)

Sometime in the afternoon Joran goes to the nearby home of his friend Freddy, where he tells Freddy about having met Natalee, and says they left her at the HI. It is not until the next day, at the Racquet Club, that Joran tells Freddy he has learned Natalee is missing, and that the truth is they left her on the beach (Freddy 6/12 in DZNH).

Note: Joran claims in his book that he told Freddy both the HI and beach drop off versions on Tuesday May 31, at Freddy's house.

5:00 or 6:15 pm: Paul drops Joran off at the Racquet Club (J 6/14, P 6/23, DZNH)

Joran doesn't feel like playing tennis because none of his friends are there, so he gives his trainer an excuse and goes to the fitness center, where he talks to his friend Koen. Joran calls Paul asking if he can play in a tournament at the Wyndham casino, Paul says yes. Joran calls his friends Guido and Andre and invites them to go to the casino with him, Guido says has he has to work until 10:00 (DZNH, J 6/14).

6:00 pm: By this time Beth, Jug, and their friends Jodi Bearman, Mat Whatley, and Ruffner Page, have left for Aruba on a donated private plane ("Nancy Grace" 10/3/05, LN).

6:30 or 7:15 pm: Joran leaves the Racquet Club on foot for the Wyndham Hotel, leaving his tennis gear behind in a bag (DZNH, J 6/14).

Paul picks up Joran's bag at the Racquet Club, at about the same time that Joran is walking in the direction of the Marriott, and that Joran asks him about playing at the Wyndham. Paul then picks up Joran's brother from a friend's house (P 6/25).

Joran leaves with Guido and drives to the Aruba Grand to cash in chips he had won earlier, they tell Andre they are going to Joran's house to get money to gamble with. Guido and Joran play blackjack at the Grand (J 6/14, DZNH, Dos Santos 6/20)

8:34-8:37 pm: Paul visits several stock-related sites (CRD)

8:37 pm: Paul google image searches for "alcohol", "beer" and "drugs". Visits sites containing information on alcohol and drugs, the dangers of these for young people, and a lawyer's office. The sites are visited only briefly (CRD).

11:00 pm: Guido and Joran arrive at Radisson Casino. Andre calls to ask where Joran is, and says he will come there (DZNH, J 6/14)

11:10 pm: Satish picks up Deepak from work. Deepak takes Satish home because he has school the next day and his mother is angry that they stayed out late the previous night and Satish hadn't gone to school (D 6/11)

11:30: Deepak and Satish arrive home, Deepak tells Satish he is going to the casino with Joran. Satish goes to sleep (D 6/11, 6/13)

11:30: Charles Croes, owner of an Aruban cell rental company, recieves a call from a friend, informing him that a very important call may have been made from one of his phones. Croes makes arrangements to meet his friend (OTR 6/29/05)

TUESDAY, MAY 31

12:00-2:00 am: Deepak is at the Radisson casino with Joran, Guido and Andre. Deepak observes that Joran is drunk (D 6/11, 6/13)

12:00-2:00 am: At some point Joran, Deepak, and Guido leave the casino. Guido returns after about an hour, not clear how long Joran and Deepak are gone. (Dos Santos 6/20)

The Alabama group goes to CnCs, then Beth meets with Charles Croes at a gas station, where Croes listens to a message that was left on the voice mail of one of  Natalee's friends (VF, OTR 6/29/05).

Joran recieves the phone call from Paul as Deepak is parking at the Wyndham. Joran tells Paul he is at the Wyndham. Paul tells Joran that people want to talk to him regarding a girl who had gone missing and that he would come to where Joran was. Joran misunderstands Paul, and Deepak and Joran go to Joran's house.

Paul gets in the police car and the whole group drives to the Wyndham. At the Wyndham, a few people in the group show Natalee's picture to several members of the casino staff. At least one person says that she had seen Natalee a few hours earlier in the company of a tall boy (P 6/23)

2:30-3:00 am: Deepak calls Satish to tell him about the phone call Joran just recieved from Paul, and that he will call him back later to tell him how things went (S 6/13).

Joran says: "What the fuck is up/wrong with this bitch." Then Joran tells Deepak they should say that they left CnCs with her, they drove around, Joran kissed and fingered her, she fell asleep in the car, they took her back to her hotel, she fell down, Joran helped her up, and she walked off (D 6/11, D 6/13)

Deepak tells Joran they should say they left her at the HI (J 6/14)

Deepak calls Satish, about 15-30 minutes after his last call, to tell him there is a possibility the girl is missing and that they should say they left her at the HI. Satish hears Joran instructing Deepak what to say (S 6/11, 6/13)

Joran phones Satish and verifies that he remembered the story correctly (D 6/13, S 6/11)

When neither Natalee or Joran are found at the Wyndham, Paul calls Joran again and the group returns to the Van der Sloot home, where Joran and Deepak are already present, leaning against Deepak's car.

Charles Croes is the first person to question Joran, and Joran tells Croes his entire initial story, from his first meeting with Natalee to HI dropoff (P 6/23)

Joran tells Croes that Natalee was the girl whose money he helped win back at the casino, and that she called him her "lucky charm" (OTR 6/29/05).

Paul hears Joran say that he and Natalee had been kissing in the back seat and he had fingered her (P 6/23)

After Croes has spoken to Joran, Americans in the group begin interrogating him. Paul tells the Americans that they do not have any jurisdiction here and should be civil. One of the Americans calls Deepak an "asshole" (P 6/23)

"Natalee's uncle" becomes agressive when he learns that Deepak was the driver of the car (S 6/13)

At that moment Paul says Joran and Deepak should make no more statements to the Americans. One of the Americans suggests gong to the lighthouse, but the police say that is useless and Paul agrees. Paul wants Joran to go to his apartment, however Joran says they should try their best to help find the girl. One of the Americans suggests going to the HI. Paul reluctantly gets back into the police car with Joran and Deepak, and after a brief stop at the Noord station they drive to the HI (P 6/23)

3:30 am: Group arrives at the HI (D 6/13)

Deepak talks to a man sitting in a car with Beth in back, and accidentally mentions something about Joran's shoes (D 6/11)

Beth shows Deepak a photo of Natalee and asks him where she is (S 6/13)

Agent Williams approaches Joran and askes him to tell him exactly what happened that night. Joran repeats his story. Williams takes down some notes and then walks off to talk with one of the local police officers (DZNH)

A woman yells at the hotel manager: "Don’t you have any video cameras here"? Joran points out that there is a video camera at the front desk, but the manager says it only covers the front desk area (DZNH)

5:00 am: Paul says Joran has to leave because he has school. Before they leave Natalee's family askes them to explain what happened one more time, and Deepak jumps in saying that when they dropped her off , a security guard dressed in black walked up to Natalee as she was aproaching the lobby. The girl at the front desk says that it could not have been a HI security guard because those were not the colors of their uniform. Joran is asked if he also saw the guard, and he says no (DZNH)

Police take Paul, Joran, and Deepak back to the Van der Sloot home. During the drive the officer that had spoken to Agent Williams says that he had told him the girl was probably a runaway and will turn up in a day or two (DZNH).
